A day in the life of a Humboldt tree hugger
She found the tallest tree on the property and decided to climb to the top so she could survey all the land. So she started to climb the big tree. As she neared the top, she encountered a spotted owl that became spooked and attacked her. In her haste to escape, she slid down the tree to the ground very fast and got many splinters in her, eh'hem... private parts. In considerable pain, she hurried to the Garberville clinic to see the doctor. Being a tree hugger himself, the doctor listened to Carols' story with great patience and then told her to go into the examining room and he would see if he could help her. Now, no one is in a hurry in Humboldt country because they are all laid back on "Humboldt time". However, Carol sat and waited for three hours before the doctor reappeared. At this point she was very frustrated and demanded, What took you so long? He apologized for taking so long and then told her, "I had to get permits from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management before I could remove old-growth timber from a recreational area!!!
